Who We Are

I, Katelyn Mason, am the owner and founder of Pawsitively Blue Pet Care and Training. I knew I wanted to work with animals ever since I was a kid. I dreamed of all sorts of jobs; marine biology, conservation biology, and veterinary medicine to name a few. For most of my life, however, I wanted to be a marine biologist. I learned about the Phoenix ZooTeen Volunteer program near me and I instantly applied. I served as a ZooTeen for 3 years and served over 400 hours during that time. I was not a stingray keeper though, as I decided to work with the farm and equine. My heart was more drawn to them and because of that, I decided I wanted to pursue equine veterinary medicine.

After graduating high school and the ZooTeen program, I attended Arizona State University in their pre-veterinary medicine biology degree. I was so sure this was the path for me. Fate had a different idea and brought me my first dog, Azul (pictured below). Azul is a female German Shepherd Dog, American Pit Bull Terrier, and Siberian Husky mix, or German Pitsky as I like to call her! She came to me as a malnourished and sick 13 week old puppy who just needed someone to love her. With her happy smile and light blue eyes, I couldn't say no. At the same time, I was also battling severe anxiety so Azul was able to live with me on campus as my emotional support animal. I got her to a healthy point after many vet visits and diet changes.

Over time my needs changed and my doctors recommended training her as my service dog. I had the aid of a couple professional trainers from time to time, but mostly learned on my own and successfully trained her as my medical alert and psychiatric service dog. I realized that I was at my happiest when I was training her and researching dog nutrition. It allowed me to create such a strong bond with her and teach her how to save my life. It also allowed me to give her the best life possible as a thank you for saving my life. I then knew that I wanted to do this for a living so I can help other people and their dogs save each other.

I decided I wanted to pair animal nutrition and dog training to help dogs live the best lives they can. I have worked in pet care for years doing private sitting, but have also worked in many dog daycare, boarding, and training facilities. I was able to learn a lot from a variety of trainers to help me gain experience with different training styles. I currently work as a veterinary receptionist to learn more about animal physiology, health, and preventative care. As I finish up my degree in biology, I am currently only offering dog training services until I complete a certification in animal nutrition.
